With a Lot of Fermatas

This was coming for awhile. I even mentioned it a few posts past. Ignoring tempo and meter as I compose has utterly mucked with my personal time/space continuum, and I just spent the better part of the day figuring out that I’ve been writing in 5/4 at approximately 105. With a lot of fermatas. For myself, I don’t care. I’ve been blithely going about composition based on feeling, without any sense of being tethered to notation. So luscious! But this is an orchestral piece, and musicians like to think that I have some idea where 1 is. And I do. It’s right down there, at the bottom of the conducting arc. You know…more or less.
